Really glad to see that there are no differences between the weapons for this pair of releases. In for a pair of SVDs!

They would choose Hawkeye for a marksman’s sculpt

I don’t understand why they went with the triangle folder stock on the AK, especially since it has the modern black furniture. Doesn’t the existence of the folding 74M synthetic stock invalidate the older triangle folder?

A significant number of Russian troops still use the older pattern AK-74N series, which would still have the original side folding triangular stock in its AKS-74N configuration. many of these have been modernized with newer polymer furniture, although this would be unlikely with what appears to be a better equipped GRU operator, given this guy’s loadout and patches. The confusing part is the smooth dust cover, which is consistent with the later AK-74M, as the older AK-74N series has a ribbed version. This rifle looks a lot more like the Frankenstein AK’s one sees in service with Ukrainian units than those used by Russian forces.

Agreed. Would’ve been nice for the Special Edition to have included a Digital Flora Jungle Hat and a SV-98M instead of the same weapons and a helmet. Sorry, and a gas mask…for a sniper. The Ghost coat does have promise although.

It’ll be interesting to see the difference, price-wise. How dear they hold the sniper suit, that will be a factor for me.

You should see a $10-15 price difference between the two. Unless one wants the earlier gen 6B46 from the regular edition then special edition is the better value.

So the newer GB46 has wider shoulder straps? And with the regular version, you’d forfeit the Ghillie set, seat pad, and gas mask, also?

That seems to be the case, the newer version apparently has wider padded straps. From reading neither seem to be commonly used. Special edition gets you the gas mask and ghillie suit while substituting the newer variant of the plate carrier so easily worth the difference in price unless you need the older variant for a specific bash. Both have the pad.

The AK platform can certainly be upgraded piecemeal. Perhaps some operators prefer the older triangle folder stock and do not upgrade to newer offerings when given the option to.

Just thought it a bit odd that DAM went with this configuration over the standard 74M stock. That configuration has been released three times by my count - VDV, Natalia, Elite Firearms - but I don’t think anyone would complain if we saw a bog-standard 74M annually? Well, maybe they would. 1:6 does not seem to be in a period of growth.
